Set up Dozokit Links in five minutes
You need a Cloudflare account and a GitHub account, both free. Cloudflare runs your links, and GitHub keeps a copy of the program in your name so you can update it later. At the end you have your own short-link address, protected by your password, that makes QR codes nobody can switch off.
The steps
- Click the Deploy to Cloudflare button above.
- Sign in to Cloudflare, or create your free account.
- When Cloudflare asks, connect your GitHub account.
- Leave the suggested names (dozokit-links) as they are.
- In the PASSWORD field, type the password that will protect your links: 12 characters or more. Write it down.
- Click Create and deploy, then wait a minute or two.
- Open the address Cloudflare shows at the end (something like dozokit-links.your-name.workers.dev) and add /admin at the end. Sign in with your password.
- Create a link: paste the address it should lead to, and give it a name if you like.
- Download its QR code as a PNG or SVG file.
Before you print: your own short address (optional)
A code holds the address it was made with. To use go.yourdomain.com instead of workers.dev, add it first, if your domain is managed by Cloudflare: in Cloudflare open Workers & Pages, then dozokit-links, then Settings → Domains & Routes → Add → Custom domain. Then download your codes again.
Change where a code leads
In the admin page choose the link, change the address, and save. Printed codes follow the new address within a minute. The name after the slash never changes.
Count scans
Every scan of a QR code and click on a short link is counted per day in the admin page. Nothing about the person is kept. To see them next to your website visits, add your links’ address as a website in Dozokit Analytics and copy its site id. Then in Dozokit Links open Settings, paste your analytics address and the site id, save, and click Check the connection. Each scan then shows as a visit and a goal named qr_scan or link_click, with the link’s name.
If you forget the password
In Cloudflare, open the Worker, then Settings → Variables and Secrets, and edit PASSWORD. The password you type there works straight away.
Updating
When a newer version is out, the admin page says so. You update on GitHub:
- On github.com, open dozokit-links, the copy Cloudflare made in your name.
- Click the Actions tab.
- Click Update Dozokit Links in the list on the left.
- Click Run workflow, then the green Run workflow button.
About two minutes later, Cloudflare has put the new version online by itself. Your links and counts stay. What’s new in each version
